Young Lady Cards working hard By BARRY BURLESON The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals have had their struggles this season but coach Brian Smith said the future looks bright. The young fastpitch softball squad includes just two seniors, and one of those is injured. “We have a team full of underclassmen, and we’re going through a learning process,” Smith said. The Lady Cardinals entered competition this week with a 1-8 record (0-3 in the district). The latest loss was Thursday at home, 18-0 to a very talented Baldwyn squad. “Baldwyn is the best team we’ve played all year,” he said. “They’re one of the best teams around.” Potts Camp’s lone win came over H.W. Byers in game one of the season. Smith saw some spunk from his young team on Tuesday of last week. The Lady Cardinals, playing on the road, fell behind East Union 11-1 but bounced back to score 10 runs to tie it. They lost 15-11. “It was a great comeback,” he said. “We showed a lot of heart.” The remainder of the schedule includes April 3, Byhalia, away; April 5, East Union, home; April 10, Center Hill, home; and April 12, H.W. Byers, away. “I’m proud of the girls,” Coach Smith said. “They’re working hard – probably harder than in the past. I’ve put more demands on them.” Report
