Indians split district contests By BARRY BURLESON The Byhalia Indians got an all-important district win over Charleston Friday on the road. Locals enjoy free-throw success After taking first place honors in the local tournament staged by Council #8760 of the Knights of Columbus, five contestants qualified for the shootout in Madison. Nabors receives postseason recognition Two Northwest Mississippi Community College Ranger sophomore basketball players have earned post-season awards for their efforts during the 2006-07 season. Justin Nabors, a forward from Holly Springs, shared Region XXIII Player of the Year honors with Welsey Jones of Pearl River. Nabors was also voted first team MACJC All-State. Nabors averaged a team-leading 16.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game this season. Nabors, who ranks sixth on the school’s career rebounding list with 500 boards in 60 games, also averaged 1.2 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.6 steals. Guard Antonio Logwood of Tunica earned second team MACJC All-State honors. Saddle club sets show Friday at fairgrounds Briarwood Saddle Club will hold 13 horse shows on Friday nights this year with the first being Friday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the Marshall County Fairgrounds in Holly Springs.
