Area players claim postseason honors

The postseason basketball honors are rolling in, with the H.W. Byers Lady Lions leading the recognition in Region 1-2A.
The Lady Lions advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history and finished with a record 26 wins versus 11 losses.
Named all-division were junior Simone Ryan and sophomores Rachel Jones and Ciara Seldon. Jones was tabbed offensive player of the year and Ryan defensive player of the year.
Selected honorable mention were junior Marian Parker and sophomore Amanda Jones.
Rachel Jones and Simone Ryan were also chosen to the all-north- half and all-state teams.
Coach Jason Thompson was named co-division coach of the year, and he has also been chosen to coach the West All-Stars in the Northeast All-Star Basketball Game on June 2 in Booneville. Two of his senior Lady Lions will be members of the all-star squad – Latasha Anderson and Brittany Todd.
Earning all-division recognition for the H.W. Byers boys were seniors Tristan Kizer and Darrius Wells and junior Nicholas Tate. Picked for the honorable mention list were junior Justin Owens and sophomore Fred Jones.
Coach Sylvester Kilgore was named co-division coach of the year.
Potts Camp and Ashland basketball players also received all-division honors.
For the Lady Cardinals, junior Jasmine Harmon and freshman Kenyotta Jenkins were selected all-division.
For the Cardinals, named to the all-division squad were seniors Jacobye Davis and Justin Smith. Davis was tabbed offensive player of the year. Freshman Josh Martin received honorable mention recognition.
For the Devils, selected all-division were seniors Darnell Anderson, Calvin Hampton and Quint Hampton.
For the Lady Devils, sophomore Sandricka Bowen was named all-division.
