Local News BriefsDeadline Thursday to qualify for Potts Camp election One more person has signed up to run for a vacant alderman position in Potts Camp. Dollean Porter qualified Monday. She joins earlier qualifiers Sabrina Porter and James “Johnny” Westmoreland. Qualifying for the at-large position continues until 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 29. Candidates can sign up at town hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Thursday. A special election is set for Tuesday, April 17, in the Town of Potts Camp to fill a seat on the board of aldermen. Alderman Al Beard died February 24, almost halfway through his four-year term and leaving a vacancy on the five-member board. Voting on April 17 will take place at town hall. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The term will run through June 2009. For additional information on the election, contact the Potts Camp Town Hall, 662-333-7285, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. City announces flag contest; deadline for entries is May 1 Show your city pride by participating in the City of Holly Springs flag contest to design a city flag. The contest is open to students in grades seven through 12 who attend schools in the City of Holly Springs. Entry deadline is May 1. Submit entries to Mayor’s Office, 160 South Memphis Street, Holly Springs, MS 38635. The winner will receive a $100 savings bond. County board of supervisors schedules Spring Clean-Up Spring Clean-up ’07 is scheduled for April 2 through April 23. The Marshall County Board of Supervisors will provide dumpsters at the following locations for your convenience. Please, no brush or household garbage. The Marshall County Rubbish Pit and White Goods Collection Site is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday.
