ObituariesBertha M. Cade Bertha M. Cade, 83, of Byhalia, died Dec. 8, 2006 at her home. She was a retired owner and operator of Cade and Haskett Florist and a Methodist. She leaves her husband, Jesse H. (Jack) Cade Jr.; and three brothers, Tommy Mooring of Newport, Ark., John Ellis Mooring Jr. of Byhalia, Sam Mooring of Flint, Mich. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Donald Allen Crain Donald Allen Crain, 55, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 6, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. He was a member of the Men’s Club and the Vestry at Christ Episcopal Church, and a finance sales consultant. He was a member of the Byhalia Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Byhalia Lions Club, an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Byhalia High School, Class of 1969. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 9 at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. Bruce McMillan and Rev. Vickie White officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his wife, Carey Rather Crain; a son, Donald Allen Crain Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Sarah Frances Crain of Jackson; two brothers, Charles Crain of Byhalia, Vic Crain of Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Sarah Fay Sawyer of Byhalia, Nell Schmidt of Long Beach. Pallbearers were Kelly Crain, Ken Crain, Seth Crain, Randle House, Charly McClatchy, Ben Tucker, Anderson Sawyer and Scott Sawyer. Jessie Ometa Griffin Jessie Ometa Griffin, 60, of Potts Camp, died Dec. 5, 2006 at her home. She was a member of Oak Hill Christian Church in Michie, Tenn., and a florist with Connie’s Flowers. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Oak Hill Christian Church Cemetery. She leaves a son, Kevin Griffin of Holly Springs; a daughter, Michelle Watts of Potts Camp; a brother, Grady Jackson of Counce, Tenn.; two sisters, Sue Smith of Corinth, Sharon Jackson of Potts Camp; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Griffin. Elder Cecil Guthrie Elder Cecil Guthrie, 81, of Springfield, Jamaica, died Dec. 6, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North MS in Oxford. He was born in Springfield; he moved to Oxford 40 years ago. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Abbeville. He leaves two daughters, Lillian Kay Guthrie of Jacksonville, Fla., Ulonda Guthrie of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Wesley Guthrie of Louisville, Ky., Victor Guthrie of Port Lucie, Fla., Hemard Guthrie of England. Nelda Kathryn Mason Nelda Kathryn Mason, 77, of Memphis, Tenn., died Dec. 9, 2006 at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis, Tenn. She was a Methodist. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Valley Grove Cemetery in Michigan City. She leaves her husband, David Harold Mason; a son, David H. Mason Jr. of Memphis; three daughters, Nelda Skinner of Memphis, Linda M. Finley of Olive Branch, Nancy Shelton of Michigan City; three brothers, Buddy Hinton, Clarence Hinton, Lowell Hinton, all of Corinth; and eight grandchildren.
Ferrell Lee Moore, 80, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 6, 2006 at his home. He was a member of Holly Springs Presbyterian Church, a merchant with F.L. Moore Grocery and an armed forces veteran. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell and Bro. Don Wilson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his wife, Betty Holbrook Moore; three daughters, Karen M. Holley of Hernando, Grace Moore Woods of Byhalia, Teresa M. Clarkson of Olive Branch; a brother, Boyd E. Moore of Holly Springs; a sister, Sarah Moore Williams of Potts Camp; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Leigh Moore Clark. Russell Quit Perry, 81, of St. Louis, Ill., formerly of Marshall County, died Nov. 27, 2006 at his home. He was Catholic and a veteran of World War II. Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 8 at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Ill. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Pastor James Macon officiated. Officer Funeral Home, East St. Louis, Ill., was in charge of arrangements. He leaves one sister, Clara (Cissie) Webb of East St. Louis; and cousins Claude Vinson and Clara Vinson, both of Holly Springs. Willie Miller Ross Willie Miller Ross, 100, of Laws Hill, died Dec. 7, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. He was a retired farmer. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9 at New Hope MB Church in Laws Hill. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Earnest Jones officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his caregivers, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie A. Fesmire of Waterford; a nephew, Ray Miller of Toledo, Ohio; a niece, Cora Yarbrough of Akron, Ohio; and cousins, Levan Miller, Elmira Miller Curry, Mandie Wilson, all of Marshall County.
