Memphis men charged in counterfeit check ploy
By SUE WATSON
Holly Springs police officers apprehended three suspects Friday night after they made two attempts to cash counterfeit checks locally, according to chief Robert Pearson.
He said a clerk at the first establishment refused to cash the check after recognizing the men. The clerk called the Holly Springs Police Department with a description of the vehicle the suspects were driving and officers began looking for the vehicle around town, Pearson said.
“They went to another place and tried to cash them and officers identified the vehicle they were driving and arrested them,” he said.
In jail on $150,000 bond are Tyrone Dowdy, 30, and Willie Lee Neal Jr. 28, charged with forgery. The third suspect, Walter Keith, 33, was charged with conspiracy to commit a crime/felony. All three suspects from Memphis are being held at the Marshall County Jail, Pearson said.
In another case charging murder and felony possession of a firearm in connection with a shooting at a local convenience store in Holly Springs November 26, the suspect Ezell Hardin, 29, of West Woodward Avenue, was bound over to a grand jury last week, Pearson said.
