Supply of flu vaccine available at area clinic Dr. Clifton Rodgers, Clinical Director at Northeast Mississippi Health Care, Inc., reminds everyone that the single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending this year that vaccines be given after mid-November. Now is the time to get the flu vaccine for the greatest protection. “This year’s flu vaccine does not protect against the avian or bird flu strain. That vaccine is still being developed,” states Dr. Rodgers. The ability of a flu vaccine to protect a person against the virus depends on the age and health status of the person getting the vaccine. Vaccines are now available at the Byhalia Family Health Center and Mt. Pleasant Family Health Clinic. Parents of young children are reminded that flu vaccines are available for the children at no cost, and they are given as a series of two injections.
