Local News BriefsEarly deadlines in place for next week’s South Reporter There will be early deadlines for next week’s edition of The South Reporter due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Deadline for all classified advertising is this Friday, Nov. 17, at 12 noon. Deadline for all other advertising, including display and legal notices, plus all news and photographs is this Friday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. The November 23 edition of The South Reporter will be printed a day earlier than normal. “We thank everyone for helping us meet these deadlines,” said publisher Barry Burleson. “We hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving.” Byhalia Chamber schedules luncheon for Thursday The Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce will host a general membership meeting, sponsored by Northcentral Electric Power Association, this Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Wayne Hollowell Community Building, 225 Hwy. 309 in Byhalia. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. with networking and buffet line opening. Lunch and the program is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Speaker is Kevin Doddridge, NEPA general manager. There will also be a salute to veterans and our troops. Lunch will include Kenny Dickerson’s famous fish. Call 662-838-8127 for more information. Byhalia Police Department responds to variety of calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 34 calls during the past week. Chief Mike Novay released the following report – five alarm calls, three motor vehicle accidents, one burglary, three disturbances, one theft, one escort, three animal-related calls, seven assists, three fires and seven miscellaneous calls. Officers wrote 12 citations. Chief Novay said police made 12 arrests. He said Robert Sanders, 23, of 82 Schoolhouse Road in Byhalia, is charged with disregard for traffic device, careless driving, expired tag, suspended driver’s license, no insurance, open container, possession of controlled substance x 2. Sanders was arrested November 11 in a traffic stop at Sigman Street and Fuller Street, according to Novay. Other individuals were arrested on the following misdemeanor charges:
