New chief comes to town By SUE WATSON Robert Pearson was sworn in as police chief of Holly Springs Wednesday of last week at city hall. Justice Court Judge Ernest Cunningham administered the oath of office and was flanked by Mayor Andre’ DeBerry and all members of the board of aldermen. Supervisors vote 3-2 to allow substation By SUE WATSON In a split (3-2) vote Monday, the Marshall County Board of Supervisors approved the location of an electric power substation on Highway 311 in the Mt. Pleasant community. Honor our Vets this Veterans Day “To Honor the Dead by Helping the Living,” wear a Buddy Poppy this Veterans Day, the VFW’s official flower. By doing so, you not only help needy and disabled veterans, but also honor those who have sacrificed so much for the freedom we all enjoy today. The Buddy Poppy represents the blood shed by American service members and reiterates that the VFW will not forget their sacrifices. VFW and Auxiliary members from Collins-Hurdle Post 5697 will be set up at Wal-Mart and will canvas the Square collecting donations on Friday, Nov. 10. There will also be a roadblock in Potts Camp from 3-5 p.m. Please don’t pass by without accepting a Buddy Poppy from our members. The poppies are assembled by disabled, hospitalized and aging veterans in VA hospitals and state veterans’ homes. All proceeds from the distribution of poppies are used for veterans’ welfare or for the well-being of their dependents. Alliance sponsors program at ICS Alliance Charitable Foundation of Marshall County and Williams Medical Clinic sponsored an educational program for 110 parents, grandparents and staff at Holly Springs ICS Headstart Center, October 31. Carter heads preservation office on coast By SUE WATSON Chelius Carter of Holly Springs has been selected to run Preservation House, a field office in Biloxi set up by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to help Gulf Coast residents with applications for grants to restore public and private homes and structures.
