Holly High Hawks happy to be back in state playoffs By CLAUDE VINSON The Holly High Hawks found themselves in a history-making position once more. They are returning to the Class 3A state playoffs for a third unprecedented season. They won their first playoff game, ever, last season on the road at Corinth. Head coach Clifford Brown, in completing his second full season with the Hawks, is elated with the prospect. “We had a pretty good record in the district (region) and are happy to be moving on and extending our playing time,” he said. “We had one of our premier runningbacks (Marcell Johnson) back for the game with Byhalia. He was only about 80 percent recovered from his injury at the beginning of the season. If he improves just 5 percent more, we should be OK in the playoffs.” The final standings for Region 2-3A are listed below:
Teams with identical records had their final ranking determined by score(s) in head-to-head contests. In the opening round this Friday at 7 p.m., Holly Springs visits Amory, Senatobia hosts South Pontotoc, Independence hosts Houston and Water Valley visits Nettleton. Report News: (662) 252-4261
