to Nowhere It’s all fun and games... • “It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.” How many times has your mother said that to you? “Don’t run with scissors” is a good one also. My mother said that a lot too. Now, ask me why I didn’t listen to her... For some unknown reason lately, I’m apparently accident prone. All I can figure is I didn’t listen to my mother like I should have. Or I’m just jinxed. Either way... Friday afternoon was the last straw! I’d stopped at the store on the way home and among the things I’d purchased were a new collar and leash for Mr. Bean, our miniature schnauzer. My granddaughters are forever losing the leashes and I thought to hide this one in my car for when I needed it. So, I took the scissors out of the little compartment under my dashboard to cut the leash out of the package for easier hiding. Do I have to tell you what I did? I didn’t think so. I didn’t realize at first that I’d stabbed myself with the scissors point. The tip had slid across the package and buried itself in the fat part of my thumb all the way to the bone. Pulling the scissors out hurt worse than the actual stabbing. I had to sit in the car for a bit before I could drive home. It hurt! • At least I had something to talk about all the way to Arkadelphia Saturday. My poor brother Dennis rode with me to meet my niece and her husband halfway from their home in Tyler, Texas. My niece is spending a couple weeks R&R at my house. Dennis is really good about riding places with me. He likes to go try out new restaurants and he’ll go anywhere to girl watch. He wanted to go with me to Arkadelphia — which is almost exactly halfway to Tyler — to eat lunch at Mazio’s Pizza. We’ve stopped there on our way back and forth to Tyler several times and they do have good pizza and a great salad bar. That’s not the biggest reason Dennis likes it though. It’s the girls! The waitresses are young and attractive. And this visit, he was in “girl watching” heaven. There was some sort of sports activity at a high school in Arkadelphia and one of the cheerleading teams was at Mazio’s while we were there. At least 20 cute girls in cute, little outfits were all over the restaurant. Dennis almost couldn’t enjoy the pizza! I think he thought it was well worth the four-hour drive! • Friday afternoon, a man stopped me in the parking lot of the store and asked my name. Turns out he recognized me from the hideous photo in the paper. He said he’d been reading and enjoying my column as long as I’d been writing it. Thanks again Donny Sullivan! That makes it worth the effort! Report News:
