Lady Indians take first By BARRY BURLESON The Byhalia Lady Indians defeated H.W. Byers and Ashland Saturday in the H.W. Byers Preseason Tournament for the first-place trophy. “We played great defense,” said coach Summer Pannell, who led her squad to the Class 3A State Tournament last season. “I was extremely proud of the defensive intensity we brought. Chasidy Kizer did a great job.” Lashonda Odum’s 20 points powered Byhalia past the host Lady Lions. Others in double figures were Kizer with 17 and Roszetta Blackmon with 12. Blackmon and Odum also pulled down nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Brandy Fayne had seven assists, six steals and six points. The Lady Indians shot 57 percent from the floor (24 of 42) and 51 percent from the line (18 of 35). Byhalia led 39-20 at the half. The Lady Indians then rolled to a 69-36 victory over the Ashland Lady Devils, thanks in large part to 26- and 20-point efforts, respectively, from Fayne and Kizer. Fayne was 10 of 15 from the field and three of three from the line. Kizer was seven of 14 from the field and 10 of 14 from the line. Blackmon grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, and Kizer had seven steals. The Lady Indians and Indians start the regular season Friday, Nov. 3, with a visit to Tunica Rosa Fort. Report News:
