Downtown festival Saturday By SUE WATSON The fourth annual Harvest Fest is set for this Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. until in beautiful downtown Holly Springs. Election November 7; absentee voting available By BARRY BURLESON Absentee voting has begun for the November 7 general election. Lucy Carpenter, Marshall County circuit clerk, said eligible persons can vote absentee in her office at the courthouse Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The circuit clerk’s office will also be open Saturday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon for absentee voting. College leaders come to Rust for state conference By SUE WATSON About 200 college administrators were in Holly Springs this week to discuss college accreditation issues, with Rust College hosting the 73rd meeting of the Mississippi Association of Colleges. Rust receives Ayers files By SUE WATSON Rust College has been selected as a repository of the Ayers case files accumulated by North Mississippi Rural Legal Services (NMSRLS) between 1975 and 1995. Halloween in the park The staff at Wall Doxey State Park is gearing up for the 18th annual Halloween Festivities. As usual, the park will offer various activities to entertain and excite all ages. The festivities will be held on Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28 from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. There will be a small fee to participate in the haunted house, hay ride, and games. Officials talk transportation, celebrate road projects By SUE WATSON Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the local delegation and Marshall County officials met last week to discuss transportation needs and to celebrate the opening of two new bridges on South Red Banks Road in District 4. DVDs, cash stolen from city residence Holly Springs Police responded to 14 calls over the last week ending October 23. A larceny was reported in the 300 block of Bonner Street. A television, DVD players, approximately 30 DVDs and $600 in cash was reported missing from the residence. Means of entry was not determined. A black, men’s wallet containing $400 in cash and various credit/debit cards was reported lost in the Memphis and Park Street area. Other calls include:
