Sheriff’s department nabs suspects in burglary, assault, sexual battery cases By SUE WATSON Sheriff Kenny Dickerson reported eight arrests in September including ones for burglary, aggravated assault and sexual battery. On or about September 29, George Hopkins, 39, of 991 Highway 349 South in Potts Camp, was arrested and charged with burglary of a dwelling on Lane Road in the Potts Camp area, he said. Hopkins was released on $10,000 bond and awaits future court action. Property alleged to have been taken from the house was recovered at a location behind the victim’s residence, Dickerson said. A suspect has been charged in a stabbing incident at a location near Potts Camp. Janice Delbridge, 42, of Bonner Street in Holly Springs, is charged with aggravated assault following her arrest on or about September 27, Dickerson said. The defendant, out on $5,000 bond and awaiting grand jury action, is alleged to have stabbed a male in the chest with a knife. The wound required several stitches, the sheriff said. Two suspects were arrested in connection with a burglary of a dwelling incident in Marshall County in the Turner Cove area on or about September 24. Co-defendants Johnny Ray Box, 29, of 752 Union Hill in Ashland, and Brandon Smith, 26, of 9305 State Line Drive in Olive Branch, were arrested and charged with burglary. The two are out on $5,000 bond and await grand jury action. A suspect was arrested on or about September 6 in Marshall County and charged with felony grand larceny. Ashley Kunkle, 19, of 254 Holiday Drive, Byhalia, is charged with felony theft of property, released on $5,000 bond and awaits grand jury action, the sheriff said. A Corinth man has been charged with sexual battery in an incident that allegedly took place in Marshall County on or about September 7. Kevin Keith Clemons, 39, of CR 528, Box 527, Corinth, was charged with sexual battery and released on $5,000 bond, pending grand jury action, he said. In a separate incident, Jessie Hughes, 29, of 1494 Isom Chapel Road in Holly Springs, was arrested and charged with burglary of an inhabited dwelling by kicking in the front door, Dickerson said. One or more items taken from the property was recovered the following day at another residence on Isom Chapel Road. Hughes was released on $2,500 bond and is also charged in a warrant issued by chancery court for child support, the sheriff said. A suspect has been arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping at a residence in the Grove of Cayce community in Byhalia. Josehector Garcia Gomez, of the Fisher Cove area, age unknown, was arrested by responding sheriff’s deputies following a call for help. Dickerson said the defendant allegedly went to a residence on Grove Boulevard and attempted to pull a 14-year-old child off the porch and make the child go to his residence. “The victim ran back to her residence and deputies responded and later identified the defendant and took him into custody without incident,” Dickerson said. Gomez remained in jail under $20,000 bond and will be bound over to the next term of grand jury, he said. Some 30 to 40 warrants for arrest issued by a Marshall County grand jury will be served starting this week, Dickerson said. The suspects, charged with burglary, grand larceny and other types of felony charges, will be picked up, processed and bonded out while they wait for arraignment in circuit court in the first week of November, he said. “Our department will be assisted by the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force in Oxford,” Dickerson said.
