| Lady Lions on
roll, knock off McAdams By BARRY BURLESON H.W. Byers, which stepped up to Class 2A this season, welcomed one of 1As best Saturday night. The Lady Lions won their sixth straight to improve to 12-11 overall and handed the McAdams girls just their third loss of the season (21-3). The Lions fought a tough McAdams squad hard but fell 80-69. The Byers boys went to 12-11 overall, while McAdams improved to 18-5. McAdams (girls) could win it all in 1A, said Jason Thompson, coach of the Lady Lions. And their boys will be a contender, too. The Byers girls got 21 points from Amanda Jones in their big 75-67 win. Ashley Stephens added 14 and Amelia Cunningham 11. Were getting things together at the right time of the year, Thompson said. The biggest thing the kids believe in themselves. Theyre being relentless, playing hard for the full 32 minutes. The Lady Lions outscored McAdams 19-10 in the second quarter and 23-19 in the fourth. The girls are making improvements and working hard, Thompson said, and they love doing it. They have good attitudes. Theyre sharing the basketball; it doesnt matter who is doing the scoring. Theyre focused on winning games. The Byers boys fell behind McAdams 41-24 at the half but outscored the visitors in the second half and lost by 11, 80-69. Nicholas Tate led coach Gerone Kirklands Lions with 17 points. Fred Jones scored 10. The Lions and Lady Lions hosted 5A Olive Branch on Tuesday of this week. Friday, they go to Falkner. Both teams are 4-1 in division play (Region 1-2A). They wrap up regular season competition in the district with a February 3 visit to Belmont. Report News:
