Lady Patriots qualify for State Tournament

The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots are State Softball Tournament bound for the second straight season.

The Lady Patriots went 2-2 last week in the North Half Fast-Pitch Tournament at Winston Academy and earned the fourth place seed from the North.

They will travel to Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland this week for the state playoffs. Marshall Academy was scheduled to play its first game Wednesday at 9 a.m. versus the number one seed from the South.

In game one of North Half play last week, the Lady Patriots skunked Manchester 7-0.

Winning pitcher Casey Gibson gave up four hits, struck out four and walked one.

Mandy Bolden ignited the offense with three hits, while Lauren Alexander and Heather Tomlinson added two hits each, and Sam Gallimore had one.

MA then dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Leake Academy in game two.

Casey Gibson took the loss. She gave up four hits and issued two walks.

Bolden again carried the hot bat. She had three hits. Getting one hit each were Traci Rodgers, Alexander, Anna Roberts and Casey Gibson.

Marshall bounced back in game three to dominate district rival Lee (Clarksdale) 10-1.

Winning pitcher Alexander gave up just three hits.

Roberts led the offensive production with three hits. Heather Tomlinson added two. Getting one hit each were Bolden, Rodgers, Courtney Gibson, Casey Gibson and Gallimore.

The Lady Patriots then settled for the fourth seed, due to a 7-0 loss to Indianola in their fourth game of North Half play.

Casey Gibson pitched three innings and took the loss. She struck out two and gave up seven hits. Alexander threw three innings in relief. She struck out four and gave up no hits.

Getting one hit each for MA were Bolden, Rodgers, Casey Gibson, Gallimore and Roberts.
