Chickasaw development may expand By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Board of Supervisors will ask its local delegation to support a local and private bill to expand the Chickasaw Trail economic development area. Board overrides mayor’s veto By SUE WATSON A growing schism between the Holly Springs Board of Aldermen and Mayor Andre’ DeBerry widened a bit more last week with a 5-0 vote to override the mayor’s veto of the board’s pick for police chief. Voter registration deadline nears; election Nov. 7 By BARRY BURLESON Persons not registered to vote must do so by October 7 if they want to participate in the Tuesday, Nov. 7, general election. All those registering in person must do so by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. The Marshall County circuit clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the courthouse in Holly Springs. All voter registration forms received by mail must be postmarked no later than Saturday, Oct. 7. Animal control still issue for Byhalia residents By SUE WATSON Three citizens from the Byhalia area presented the board of supervisors with a list of 250 petitioners calling for better animal control in Marshall County. Peggy Tritinger, spokesperson, said citizens of the county are distressed by many neglected and abandoned animals roaming the streets. Solid Waste Authority adopts plan By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Solid Waste Authority board adopted a comprehensive solid waste management plan and said it will send the plan on to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). Holly Springs Fire Department gets device to boost search, rescue By SUE WATSON A thermal imaging camera now available to small community fire departments through a Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CDAP) with the Department of Defense is now in use in Holly Springs. Burn ban lifted; blaze destroys mobile home By SUE WATSON A burn ban order in Marshall County was lifted September 1, according to assistant fire chief Elree Crane with the Holly Springs Fire Department. The department answered 22 calls over the last week:
On Monday, Sept. 25, the department assisted the Victoria Fire Department in putting out a fire in a mobile home on French Road. The mobile home was completely destroyed, Crane said. Police seek walking trail vandals The Holly Springs Police Department and Marshall County Crime Stoppers are looking for the person or persons who have vandalized the walking trail at Spring Hollow. Damage includes broken globes on the light poles. Crime Stoppers is offering information which would lead to an arrests or arrests in this case. Call 1-800-729-2169. Holly Springs police are also investigating the burglary of a vehicle on Stratmon Drive and a grand larceny in the 300 block of West Valley. A generator, valued at approximately $700, was taken from the back of a work truck at the West Valley location. Police chief Patricia Selman said officers responded to the following calls last week – one domestic violence, one robbery, one burglary, four malicious mischief, one grand larceny, one hit and run, one drug-related arrest. Friends of Library plan book, bake sale Everyone is invited to The Friends of the Library book, rummage and bake sale.
