Lady Patriots take first in district The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots tuned up for this week’s North Half Tournament by finishing third out of 13 teams in a tourney at Tunica last weekend. Teal season underway in state; get in extra hunting now Early teal season opened Friday, Sept. 15. Duck hunters get a chance for an early start on their duck hunting as they head to coastal marshes, bayou backwaters and shallow water haunts in search of migrating blue-winged teal. These fast-flying ducks are among the earliest birds to migrate south and provide fast action for sportsmen. The teal season in Mississippi runs from September 15-30 with a bag limit of four teal per day. Ducks Unlimited biologists have received reports of improved habitat conditions in the U.S./Canadian prairies. They also predict cooler weather to the north will push large concentrations of blue-winged teal south to provide premiere hunting opportunities. White Oak golf tourney Thursday The 10th Annual Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce White Oak Classic Golf Tournament is Thursday, Sept. 21, at Kirkwood National in Holly Springs. Mt. Pleasant Lions debut in Greenville Get ready, because here we come. The Mt. Pleasant Lions’ season has begun. On Saturday, Sept. 16, the youth football and cheer league kicked off the season by participating in a jamboree in Greenville. There were three buses and a caravan with participants, parents, coaches, grandparents and other members of our support team at the event. It was a great day for our youth. The football team did a great job. Our cheerleaders were wonderful. They showed the spectators what it feels like to be a Lion. The regular season starts this Saturday, Sept. 23. The games will be held at the Byhalia High School stadium starting at 10 a.m. Regular admission is $2, with children 6 and under getting in free.
