Lady Patriots take first in district The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots tuned up for this week’s North Half Tournament by finishing third out of 13 teams in a tourney at Tunica last weekend. “It was a competitive tournament,” said assistant coach Carlton Gibson. “We hope playing these really good teams will help us get ready for the North Half Tournament.” The North Half will be played Wednesday and Saturday at Winston Academy in Louisville. MA was set to open play Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Patriots will be the number one seed. They wrapped up the Division 1-AA championship with a 9-1 victory at Delta last Thursday. Courtney Gibson was the winning pitcher. She struck out seven, walked none and gave up four hits. Top hitters were Mandy Bolden with two, Courtney Gibson with 2 (one run-batted-in), Traci Rodgers with one (two RBIs) and Heather Tomlinson with one (one RBI). Marshall’s other contest last week was a 4-1 loss to Class 3A Magnolia Heights. Lauren Alexander gave up seven hits in taking the loss. She struck out four and walked just one. Getting one hit each were Bolden, Alexander, Casey Gibson and Sam Gallimore. Alexander had the lone RBI for the Lady Patriots. Report News:
