Lady Patriots rout Lee, Delta The Marshall Academy softball team opened last week with a pair of easy district victories. The Lady Patriots traveled to Marianna, Ark., September 5 and dominated the Lee Lady Cougars 15-1. Mandy Bolden was the top hitter with a homer and five runs-batted-in. Lauren Alexander was the winning pitcher. Marshall hosted conference foe Delta Friday and blasted the Lady Raiders 16-2. Casey Gibson was the winning pitcher. “Everyone on the team scored,” said assistant coach Carlton Gibson. “The weaker pitching we saw during the week really affected us over the weekend in the tournament.” The Lady Patriots traveled to the Greenville Christian Tournament Saturday and lost 4-1 to Class 3A Washington School, 4-1 to 1A Deer Creek and 4-0 to 1A Bayou Academy. Taking the losses were Alexander (2) and Casey Gibson (1). Scoring the two runs for MA were Bolden and Kelsey Shaw (running for catcher Heather Tomlinson). “Overall our defense improved each game,” Coach Gibson said. “We could have and can beat any of the teams we played. Our defensive errors cost us a few runs. “Plus, we have to hit the ball better to score runs.” The Lady Patriots, 9-7 on the season, were scheduled to play Magnolia Heights Monday and Kirk Tuesday. They will travel to Delta Thursday and then play in a tournament at Tunica this weekend. The North AA State Tournament begins Wednesday, Sept. 20, followed by the State Tournament September 27 and 30 and Overall October 4 and 7. Report News:
