Lady Cardinals knock off Ashland The Potts Camp softball team stands 2-1 on the season entering this week’s action. On Tuesday of last week, the Baldwyn Lady Bearcats defeated the Lady Cardinals 12-1. The Lady Bearcats had six hits to only one for the Lady Cardinals. Senior Rebekah Martin registered the one hit for the Lady Cardinals. Senior Ashley Collela pitched and recorded one strikeout. The junior varsity Lady Cardinals lost 9-2 in the second game on September 5. Sara Russom pitched for Potts Camp and registered two strikeouts. Samantha Nance went two for two, both singles. Ali Cheatwood played an excellent defensive game, according to coach Tim Carter, and had two runs-batted-in from the plate. This moved the Lady Cardinal JV team to 1-1 on the young season. Potts Camp vs. Ashland The Lady Cardinals beat the Ashland Lady Blue Devils 20-6 in the varsity game Thursday, Aug. 31, and 17-4 in JV action. Ashley Collela pitched for Potts Camp. She registered five strike- outs and threw a three-hitter. Sara Russom led the Lady Cardinal hitters, going five for five. Bethany Moore enjoyed a four for five night, while Stephanie Irving had one home run in the varsity game and another in the junior varsity game. Sandra Elks went four for four with one triple. Irving, Kasey Feathers and Chelsea Stanton all went three for four. In the junior varsity game, Irving and Russom pitched for the first time in a slow pitch softball game at Potts Camp High School. Russom registered three strikeouts in her debut. Coach Carter said he got outstanding play from Samantha Nance at first base, along with Ali Cheatwood in her debut at second base. Hailey Cobb started for the first time at shortstop and newcomer Jasmine Houston started at third base. Ally Faries did a great job behind the plate, he said, along with Brittany Gray and Misha Maney at right field, Leslie Hobbs at right center, and Makenzee Whaley in left center. “This was the first time for the junior varsity to play together and the girls did a great job,” he said. The Lady Cardinals played again on Monday, Sept. 11, at home against East Union in a varsity game and a JV game to follow. They were scheduled to play Tuesday, Sept 12, at Potts Camp field against Belmont. They will play New Site at home Thursday in a doubleheader varsity game. One of the New Site games will make up an earlier rainout game on August 22. Report News:
