Thomas retiring from tourism By SUE WATSON The executive director to the Holly Springs Tourism Bureau is retiring. Jimmy Thomas, who has held the position the last four years, and was a newcomer to the city, said he and his wife Martha are looking forward to traveling and spending more time on other interests. County millage likely to stay same By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Board of Supervisors does not expect to have to raise property taxes this year in any category, according to chancery clerk Chuck Thomas. Property tax sale draws crowd By Sue Watson The annual property tax sale on Monday of last week brought in $978,000 in uncollected property taxes for year 2005 to the county coffers, according to Marshall County Tax Collector Betty Byrd. The tax owned on 1,914 parcels was sold, she said. Holly Springs police investigate incidents Holly Springs Police Chief Patricia Selman reported three incidents last week. A wallet was reported stolen Tuesday, Aug. 29. The victim stated that he lost his wallet while in town. The wallet is described as a black leather one containing a Social Security card, driver’s license, Merchant’s and Farmer’s Bank card and a Mastercard. The grand larceny of a 1986 Chrysler was reported in the 100 block of W. Valley. The vehicle was later found on Highway 78 near Victoria. A lawnmower was taken in the 600 block of Swaney Drive. The mower is a Yardman 558, 5.0 horse power, yellow and green in color with a bagger attached. Byhalia’s new bed and breakfast open By SUE WATSON A Victorian mansion in Byhalia has been saved and is now the home of a new bed and breakfast, thanks to Susan and Jay St. John, who bought Thistledome in 2002 and renovated it.
