Byhalia police nab drug suspects A traffic stop last week in Byhalia led to the arrest of four individuals on drug charges. Chief Mike Novay said Ullysses Richmond, 19, of 50 Sigman St., Byhalia is charged with possession of controlled substance with intent and possession of a concealed weapon. He said the drug charge stems from possession of powder cocaine, marijuana and crack cocaine. Also charged with possession of controlled substance with intent in the case are Kelvin Chew, 18, of 214 Fuller St., Byhalia; Cory Crockett, 20, of 356 Sigman St., Byhalia; and Nicholas Malone, 24, of 1303 S. Lauderdale, Apt. 3, Memphis, Tenn. The four were traveling in a Monte Carlo and stopped on French Road at Quinn Mills Road, according to police. In a separate incident, Novay said another traffic stop, this one September 1 on 309 South, resulted in the arrest of William Phillips, 25, 228 Sandidge Rd., Byhalia. He is charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, felony possession times two, seatbelt violation and failure to signal, according to police. The Byhalia Police Department responded to 41 calls during the past week. Novay released the following report – two alarm calls, four motor vehicle accidents, one burglary, six disturbances, two domestic disturbances, one escort, one animal-related call, five juvenile-related calls, eight assists, one fire and 10 miscellaneous calls. Officers wrote 22 citations. Four other arrests were made on the following charges:
