Blue Mountains announces coaching clinic Blue Mountain College will host a one-day basketball clinic for Northeast Mississippi coaches on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in Wilfred C. Tyler Gymnasium located on the college campus. The clinic will feature the “run and gun” style of play favored by BMC’s new men’s basketball coach, Jerry Conner and the “up-tempo” style favored by new women’s basketball coach, Lavon Driskell. According to Coach Driskell, “We hope to provide coaches with an array of fundamental drills and ideas that they can use regardless of their current style of play.” Sessions include information on the “run and gun” style of play, various drills for warm-ups, full-court lay-ups, shooting, and more. Coach Conner stated, “The on-court demonstrations will illustrate the drills and techniques utilized in a dynamic, entertaining, and explosive system of basketball.” The deadline for registering is September 9. Pre-registration cost is $25 and walk-up registration is $30. Coaches interested in receiving continuing education credit may register at the door and pay a nominal fee. Lunch will be provided. Northeast Mississippi has long been known as a basketball hotbed. The one-day clinic presents an opportunity for the new Blue Mountain College coaching staff to meet area high school and junior high coaches and exchange ideas. For more information or to pre-register, coaches should contact Lavon Driskell at 662-685-4771 (Ext. 146) or Jerry Conner at 662-685-4771 (Ext. 129). Report News:
