Chiefs beat jr. high Pats The Marshall junior high Patriots opened their season Thursday night with a 34-16 home loss to Magnolia Heights. The Chiefs used big plays to take a 21-0 halftime lead, the last coming on a 20-yard touchdown pass with just 16 seconds to go in the first half. Magnolia Heights shut down the MA offense in the first half with the exception of a couple of good gains on passes from Hank Owens to Joey Brock. The Patriots’ defensive highlight of the first half came when Owens deflected a Magnolia Heights pass on a fourth down play. The Chiefs upped their lead to 34-0 early in the second half before MA put two touchdowns on the board. In the Patriots’ first scoring drive, Tyler Childers had a long run, then Owens hooked up with Brock on a pass play to the Magnolia Heights 2-yard line. Childers scored the six points from there, and he also ran for the two-point conversion. Childers scored a second touchdown with 5:18 to go in the game, this one on a 60-yard run. He also added his second two-point conversion on a carry up the middle. The junior high Patriots will next host Lee (Ark.) on Thursday, Sept. 21. Report News:
