County roads, bridges get attention this summer By SUE WATSON The Marshall County Board of Supervisors is tying up projects in the current fiscal year budget and meeting with departments to discuss the FY 2006-07 budget. Civic groups and districts are making their budget requests known. Department of Health reports new West Nile cases Friday, the Mississippi Department of Health (MDH) confirmed three new West Nile virus (WNV) human cases – one each in Attala, Newton and Rankin counties. These new human cases bring the state’s WNV human case total to 33, with two resulting in death. This time last year, Mississippi reported 22 human WNV cases with one death. MDH continues to encourage Mississippians to avoid mosquito bites by practicing personal protective measures as the peak of Mississippi’s WNV season continues. Benefit for Shaw family huge success By SUE WATSON A community-led fund-raiser Saturday to benefit the Morgan Shaw family was a great success thanks to all the donated food, drinks, baked goods and auction items, music and volunteer labor, according to Ronnie Luther with the Clydesdale Christmas Store. Police investigate several burglaries A rash of auto burglaries hit Holly Springs this past week. Police chief Patricia Selman said officers responded to four auto burglary calls. Report News:
