EducationOle Miss announces honor students from Marshall County The following students from Marshall County were listed on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at the University of Mississippi for the spring 2006 semester. Susan Elizabeth Hamblin, Regina Denise Self, Lori Ann Simpson, Rita Carol Smith, all of Byhalia; Matthew Louis Loftin, Cathryn Bramel Miller, Derrick A. Schmidt , all of Holly Springs; Lori Lynn Whaley, DeAnna L. Eben, John Paul Anderson Teel, all of Red Banks. Listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Ole Miss were: Amy Itsuko Ridley of Byhalia; James Connal Anderson, Kimberly Victoria Clayborn, Emily Elizabeth Davis, Roniesha T. Davis, Jeremiah Jerome Hampton, Monique Kandrel Hicks, Gerald William Stinson, all of Holly Springs; Robert William Anderson, Amanda Lea McKeown, both of Potts Camp; Shakitha Paquita Harden, Tatorie Marion Howell, both of Waterford. Named a Wal-Mart “Teacher of the Year” Kimberly Jackson, a middle school science teacher at Galena School, has been named as a 2006 Wal-Mart “Teacher of the Year.” Jackson has taught for four years at Galena School in sixth grade reading and sixth-eighth grade science. Jackson wears many hats and takes on several projects throughout the school year, such as coordinator of holiday events. She also mentors new teachers, cheerleading/dance team sponsor, prom coordinator, eighth grade promotion coordinator, science fair coordinator, advisor Galena school news on WKRA 92.7 FM. She coordinated Stop, Drop and Read in partnership with the Mississippi Chronicle. She cares about what goes on in the classroom, the school and the community. She is a great educator! During Galena School’s award ceremony held on Friday, May 19, Cathy Strawbridge, general manager at Holly Springs Wal-Mart Super Center, presented Jackson with $1,000 education grant to the school. She also received a $100 gift certificate to buy supplies for the classroom, an honorary “Teacher of the Year” polo shirt and a personalized certificate. Jackson’s teachering motto is “I teach with my heart and not with my mouth alone.” Jackson was nominated for the prestigious award and then selected for the honor by a committee.
