Awards luncheon Feb. 2; nominations being accepted

The Marshall County Awards Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, at Seafood Junction Too in Byhalia.

The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is sponsored by the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce, the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Marshall County Industrial Development Authority.

Guest speaker will be Walt Grayson. Nobody loves a good story more than Grayson. He has uncovered countless tales of life in Mississippi for his TV feature series, “Looking Around Mississippi,” which airs on WLBT in Jackson, and as host of “Mississippi Roads” on Mississippi Public Broadcasting television.

He is also the author of a new book, “Looking Around Mississippi with Walt Grayson.”

Tickets to the awards luncheon are $15 per person. A reserved table for eight is $130.

Exhibit space is $30 and includes one meal ticket. Nominations for industry, business, school and teacher of the year are being accepted at both chambers.

Marshall County Fairgrounds holding annual meeting

The Marshall County Fair Association will hold its annual membership meeting on Monday, Jan. 23.

The meeting will be held at the fairgrounds in the cattle building and will begin at 7 p.m.

All interested in the fairgrounds are encouraged to attend. Come out and meet your district representative.

All members are urged to attend. Many important decisions for the upcoming year are made at this meeting.

Zinn sets community meeting about proposed rubbish site

A community meeting is set to discuss a proposed landfill site Monday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. at Isaac Chapel Community Center on Highway 309 near Watson.

The meeting is informational in nature, said supervisor George Zinn, who called the meeting.

Anyone interested in learning more about the proposed rubbish site is welcome.

Relay for Life kickoff event scheduled Jan. 26 at library

The American Cancer Society, Marshall County Relay For Life Committee, invites everyone to its annual kickoff party on Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Marshall County Library at 6 p.m.

Businesses, industries, churches, clubs and other groups are urged to get their teams together and come out and register for Relay 2006. It will be held Friday, June 9, at Sam Coopwood Park in Holly Springs.

Honorary chairpersons for this year’s event are Gwen Gill and Vernell Winter.
