Task
Force rounds up suspects
By SUE WATSON
Staff Writer
Twenty-seven suspects, with outstanding
warrants for arrest stemming from Marshall County Grand Jury indictments
or on violation of probation charges from the Mississippi Department of
Corrections, were arrested and charged during a July 7 roundup, according
to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Another 25 suspects are still being sought,
he said.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department
was in charge of the detail with assisting agencies including officers
with the 3rd Judicial Narcotics Task Force, MDOC, Mississippi Bureau of
Investigation, Alcohol and Beverage Control, Byhalia Police Department,
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Tippah County Sheriff’s Department,
the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (U.S. Marshals), the National
Guard helicopter squad, and the staff of the District Attorney’s
Office.
Dickerson said the detail began around
4 a.m. and ended after dark.
“The arrests were an indirect
result of recent circuit court criminal indictments or failure to comply
with terms of probation of MDOC and circuit court of Marshall County,”
Dickerson said.
A large number of the violation of probation
warrants served were for failure to pay court costs, fines, or fees for
victim restitution, ordered by judges, he said.
