Holly Springs High class of 1956 meets in Martin home for 50 year reunion Nine members, and their spouses of the Holly Springs High Class of 1956 met on the evening of July 8 at the home of Ben Martin for its 50 year class reunion. Among those attending were Ned Lester of San Diego, Ca; Sam White of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; Tom Stewart of Houston, Texas; Dean Belk of Indianola; Linda Belk, John Paul Carpenter, Wayburn Callicutt, Bobby Mitchell and Ben Martin, all of Holly Springs. After visiting for a time, the group enjoyed a barbecue dinner catered by the Germantown Commissary. After the meal the class gathered to share “tall tales and true” of our time at Holly High. Culprits who had indulged in various pranks finally confessed their guilt to assorted incidents from their school days. In addition to the reminiscing, the class members also told of some of their experiences since graduation. All agreed that the achievements attained by the class reflected the education and training received at the hands of the teachers we were fortunate enough to have. Elementary teachers who greatly influenced each of us were Mary Crowder, Mamie Vick, Sallie Cochran (we were her 62nd and final class), Alice Bell and Clara Olson. There were too many teachers in high school who influenced us to name all of them. Before ending the evening, the seven members of the class who were deceased were remembered: Buddy Jones, Dixie Akins Sanderson, Frank Elgin, Fred Holbrook, Windell Tolleson, Alice McKenzie Aufdenberg, and Herbert Phillips. Members attending the reunion: Linda Belk, Wayburn Callicutt, Dean Belk, John Carpenter, Ned Lester, Sam White, Ben Martin, Bobby Mitchell, Tom Stewart.
