Welcome back from vacation “Preacher”

Like many preachers, I came to the pulpit directly from the choir loft. That is, I like to sing. I have noticed that most ministers enjoy music. A few are excellent singers. Almost all the rest make up for any lack of talent with zeal. Having sat in the choir loft for many years, it was not as far a journey to the pulpit. At least that was the case for me.

Mourning the untimely passing of a friend

This is without doubt the most difficult column I have had to write so far.

That is because I am writing it just a few hours after being told that one of my closest friends died at the weekend, after being suddenly rushed to hospital suffering from meningitis.

I would like to take a moment of your time if I may. I am just wondering, out loud I guess, as to what it would take for neighbors to get along with each other. I am not asking why we cannot love each other as we are taught as children, but why we cannot simple coexist!
