Legislators tour Holly Springs By SUE WATSON Members of a state delegation toured Strawberry Plains Audubon Center and Walter Place Estate, Cottages and Gardens last week on a two-day trip in the northeastern portion of Mississippi. Their goal is to learn more about what the state has to offer in its growing tourism industry. Board honors 79-year-old Fitts for keeping community clean By SUE WATSON Supervisors undertook a short agenda at the June 19 meeting, recognizing a lady from the Matthews Corner community who has picked up trash on the roadsides for years and learning that a new van and mini-van are in at Community Services. Audubon needs help identifying graves By SUE WATSON Audubon Mississippi, with headquarters at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs, is undertaking a project to try and identify the names of any individuals who may be buried in three of the known burial sites on the property at Strawberry Plains. Alliance adds gardening activity By SUE WATSON A vegetable and flower garden experience was added to the Alliance HealthCare System’s therapeutic activities for seniors. Fish fry to benefit family who lost everything in a house fire There will be a benefit fish fry for Kenny and Gail Work of Potts Camp at Joe Pipkin’s Shop at 3330 Highway 309 South. The fish fry will be held Friday, July 7 from 5 p.m. until. Plates are $10 and consist of fish with all the trimmings. The fish will be cooked by Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. All proceeds go towards helping the Work family following the complete loss of their home in a fire last week. Take the Potts Camp exit to Highway 349 South. All donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated. Hurt, Fleming take vote in county, district By SUE WATSON With just 2.63 percent of registered voters in Marshall County going to the polls Tuesday, June 27, James K. Hurt won 68 percent of the vote over William Bambach. Police chief stresses E-911 information Marshall County E-911 addresses are to be posted on the front of the home and/or at the driveway so law enforcement, fire and emergency medical providers can locate the structure after an emergency call for help to 911.
