Kids Kollege 2006 offers variety of camps Kids Kollege 2006 offers a variety of camps and classes that kids are sure to enjoy this summer. Northwest Community College’s Division of Continuing Education is offering a science and adventure camp; craft classes and a Web design class in late June. An overnight Science and Adventure Camp will be offered from 5 p.m. Friday, June 23 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 24. The camp will include training in biological investigations, Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation, celestial navigation and survival in the outdoors. Students will construct and spend the night in a survival shelter, learn about edible plants and prepare their evening meal. The group will also learn about leadership, coping with stressful situations, and techniques for survival swimming. The camp is geared for grades 4-6. It will be taught by Northwest Science instructors Robin Robison and Bud Donahou. It will be held at the Burks Science Building and at the Northwest farm. Students will need to bring a sleeping bag. The cost of the class is $75, and the deadline to register is June 19. Get Hooked on Crocheting is a fun way for third through eighth graders to learn the basics of crocheting skills, including learning how to hold a hook, making a slip knot, holding the yarn correctly, making a foundation chain and single and double crocheting. The class will meet June 26-30 in Room 120 of the Yalobusha Building from 9 to 11 a.m. The class will be taught by Jewel Traywick. The fee for the class is $50. The deadline to register is June 19. Web Design for Kids will teach students in grades 5-6 how to design their own Web site using Microsoft Word. Students will learn how to add pictures, type and change text while learning how to create from the navigation buttons they see on the sites. Class will include one year of Web hosting and a domain name. The instructor for the class is Helen Williamson. The fee is $50 and the deadline to register is June 16.
