The annual Relay for Life, the walking event fund-raiser to benefit the American Cancer Society, begins Friday, June 9, at 6 p.m. and concludes Saturday, June 10, at 6 a.m. at Sam Coopwood Park in Holly Springs, on the football field. Art gallery fund-raiser successful By SUE WATSON Art enthusiasts turned out Saturday night to support a fund-raiser for the Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery, which houses the body of work of the late Holly Springs artist who studied under the great American Impressionist William Merritt Chase in New York. County finalizes contract with R.E.S. By SUE WATSON Board president Eddie Dixon was authorized to sign a three-year contract with Resourceful Environmental Services (R.E.S.), continuing the household garbage collection with the company. Police make arrest in burglary The Holly Springs Police Department reports a theft and two burglaries in the past week. A theft occurred in the 100 block of McKinney on May 31. Vehicle registration stickers were taken from the automobile parked in the driveway of the residence. A burglary at a residence in the 800 block of Oakridge Cove was reported June 1. Two remote transmitters, a .380 caliber nickel plated semi-automatic handgun as well as several vehicle keys and ownership documents were reportedly taken from the residence. A burglary in the 600 block of Highway 7 North was reported at 3 a.m. June 4. Witness information aided officers in apprehending Demetrius Wayne Patterson, 21, of Corinth, according to police chief Patricia Selman. Patterson was charged with burglary, she said, and is being held at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department pending a court hearing. The Holly Springs Police Department is requesting that business owners contact the department to register a keyholder phone number in the event an emergency or break-in occurs at their place of business. Registration of a phone number will allow the department to reach the keyholder in order to obtain critical information and secure the business following an event after regular business hours.
