EducationHoly Family announces new program Beginning with the 2006-2007 school year, Holy Family Elementary School in Holly Springs will add Pre-K instruction for 3- and 4-year-olds to its current educational program. In making the announcement, Principal Ketia Francis stressed that this is a state accredited program, based on researched teaching strategies. “We’re very excited about this addition to our school community,” said Francis. “There’s nothing else like it in our area so we’ll be able to provide high educational standards for children in an identifiably Christian environment. There is an added benefit to this for the children since it allows them to experience a consistent level of teaching from their entrance into Pre-K 3 right through eighth grade.” The Pre-K program will include fine arts instruction as does the curriculum for the rest of the school. “This is not an ‘extra’ at Holy Family. Theatre, singing, and keyboard are an integral part of our schoolwide program,” explained Ms. Francis. “We believe very strongly in the value of the arts to a person’s quality of life. Of course, academics are the foundation of what Holy Family is all about. The three R’s must always be the platform on which everything else is built. “But here, I think, we’ve added a very important fourth R: religion. We pride ourselves on our Catholic identity and the Christian values we espouse and teach. This is one school where the word ‘God’ is spoken. We start each school day with prayer and we have frequent prayer services for special occasions and celebrations. We believe this focus will be of great value to the Pre-K children who will continue through their school years here knowing that prayer is a very important part of life.” The new Pre-K program at Holy Family is a full day, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until 2:45 p.m. Extended day care is also available.
