Local News BriefsCounty’s Relay for Life starts Friday, June 9, at 6 p.m. The Marshall County Relay for Life, the walking event fund-raiser to benefit the American Cancer Society, is just a week and a half away. It begins Friday, June 9, at 6 p.m. and concludes Saturday, June 10, at 6 a.m. at Sam Coopwood Park in Holly Springs, on the football field. Relay for Life is an all-night party with live entertainment, great food, games and wonderful fellowship. While all of this is going on, team members take turns walking around the track for 12 hours. Come join the fun and help raise money for cancer research. Area 4-H clubs schedule Celebration Day June 10 The first 4-H Celebration Day will be held Saturday, June 10 on M.I. Campus. Participating clubs will be the Lessye Lee Davis 4-H Club and the Eddie Lee Smith 4-H Club, both from Marshall County, and the Monroe Hill 4-H Club from Chickasaw County. Booth set-up begins at 7:30 a.m. with performances starting at 9 a.m. All performances will be taped and submitted to The Bobby Jones Gospel Hour and/or Apollo Theatre in New York. The taping is a courtesy of the 4-H clubs. The 4-H banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Rust College/Shaw Cafeteria. Speaker will be Lemon Phelps, Extension agent in Marshall County. Those who would like to recognize a special person in an organization the night of the banquet should call Mrs. Hicks, 252-5920. Time will be allocated for the presentation. To set up a booth or perform or get tickets to attend the banquet, contact Mrs. Hicks, 252-5920, or Mrs. Folsom, 551-2066. Byhalia Police Department responds to thefts, accidents The Byhalia Police Department responded to 30 calls during the past week. Chief Mike Novay released the following report – 15 alarm calls, four motor vehicle accidents, four thefts, two escorts, two assists, one miscellaneous and two fires. Officers wrote 28 citations. Novay said policemen also made 12 arrests on the following charges:
