Kudzu Festival begins Thursday in Holly Springs The 18th annual Kudzu Festival will be held this week, June 1-3, at Thomas Arena in Holly Springs. There will be free parking, a new and better carnival, two nights of rodeo (Friday and Saturday) and a gospel concert. The official opening of the festival is Thursday at 5 p.m. The carnival, provided by Johnson’s Rides and Concessions of El Dorado, Ark., runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. It’s armband night ($13) from 6 to 10 p.m. This year’s carnival is a family-oriented company, dedicated to having a well-managed, family environment for everybody. It includes a six-story ferris wheel. The Thursday night gospel jamboree begins at 6 p.m. and promises to be an entertaining event. Headliner group will be the Stone County Connection from Jackson, Tenn., performing at 8 p.m. This group has been the Tennessee Bluegrass Champion group for two years. Prior to Stone County Connection, performers will be Stars of Faith, Thomas Singers, Gospel Soldiers and Lucas Family. The J Bar B Rodeo will have the usual great rodeo clowns and lots of local cowboy talent, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Carnival hours Friday and Saturday are 5 p.m. to 12 midnight. At 5:30 p.m. Saturday (before the rodeo), the Tri-County Obedience K-9 Drill Team will perform a series of exercises and maneuvers that will open everyone’s eyes to the capabilities their own canines may be hiding. At 6 p.m., the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Unit will appear to show attendees how and what the canine search dogs can do. Additions to the schedule are expected. Admission will be $6 at the gate each evening and will include all the night’s events. Church buses will be offered a discount to $5 per ticket per person Thursday night only (gospel concert) for all buses with 10 or more passengers.
