Camping with the pros
About 30 Holly Springs High School Hawks attended the Pay It Forward Camp in Batesville on Saturday, May 20. It was hosted by Pittsburgh Steeler cornerback Deshea Townsend of Batesville. Super Bowl XL most valuable player Hines Ward worked with the high school age participants. Clifford Brown, head coach of the Hawks, said it was the perfect way to start his team’s camp season early. “High school kids don’t get the chance very often to work with professional athletes,” he said. The camp focused on fundamentals and emphasized hard work, Brown said. Holly Springs football players will participate in several camps in June, including one for linemen plus a skills camp at Ole Miss, seven-on-seven play at Ole Miss and Arkansas State’s camp at Briarcrest (in Memphis). July camps include University of Southern Mississippi and Northeast Community College.
