GEO Group awards scholarships The GEO Group Inc. announces the recipients of student scholarships this year. “We believe that education truly can open doors to a better life,” said David Helmic, assistant warden at the Marshall County Correctional Facility. “We are proud of each of these deserving young people and wish them success in their educational endeavors.” Recipients are:
Poster contest winners The Memphis Zoo celebrated the opening of the Northwest Passage Exhibit by sponsoring a poster contest for the tri-state area. Potts Camp and Mary Reid Gifted Art students won four awards in this contest. Emily Faries, daughter of Julie Rutledge and James Faries, won first place in the 10th grade division; Destiny Russell, daughter of Jimmy and Judy Russell, won first place in the seventh grade division; Sandra Elks, daughter of Timothy and Angela Elks, won third place in the 10th grade division; and Meagan Harris, daughter of Wayne and Angela Harris, won third place in the third grade division. The Gifted Art program in the Marshall County School District provides talented students a differentiated educational opportunity in the visual arts.
