Benefit boosts homeless shelter By SUE WATSON New Hope Village homeless shelter will open its last two units soon, with help from a community fund-raiser that earned $2,380. Currently nine adults and six children are served at the shelter, according to executive director Shirley Dillard. Thanks to donations of cash, food items and service hours, the recent barbecue/fish fry held at the local VFW was a success, John Boyuka said. “I just want to thank our main corporate sponsors, Flick Ash, First State Bank, Bank of Holly Springs, Merchants and Farmers Bank, A-Z Printing, The Rental Barn, the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary and numerous others who gave smaller donations,” he said. “The next fund-raiser will be an auction in the fall.” Dillard said the public is invited to attend a dedication/blessing of the final two renovated units at New Hope Village May 25 at 5:30 p.m. The shelter is seeking two new Adopt-A-Unit sponsors for four units. Individuals, organizations or churches may adopt a unit for an annual donation of $200. Plaques with the adopters’ name are placed on the unit. The shelter also accepts items for the food pantry, resale shop and clothes closet (clothing, furniture, appliances, household items). Tax receipts are provided for those who donate items of value to the shelter, she said. Call 662-252-4688 to arrange a time to drop off food for the pantry, or items for the shop or clothes closet.
