MDOT to install new signal Due to the installation of a new traffic signal, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to announce the following traffic alert to motorists traveling Highway 72 in Marshall County. Beginning this week, the signal cabinets and traffic loops will be installed for a new traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 72 and Cayce Road. The signal heads will be installed next week, according to MDOT District Engineer Jimmy Dickerson. “The signal is tentatively scheduled to be placed in flash mode on May 11 if the power is turned on,” he said. “MDOT encourages the traveling public to use extreme caution while traveling in this area due to crews and trucks being in the area performing the necessary work for the signal installation.” In an effort to keep road workers safe, Commissioner Bill Minor is asking motorists to slow down as they approach the work zone area. “We need motorists to pay close attention to the traffic changes, the workers, signage and equipment in the area,” he said. “We need them to proceed through work zones with caution.” For more information, please contact MDOT External Affairs Division at (601) 359-7017.
