Two Holly High Hawks win state gold By BARRY BURLESON Holly Springs High School finished fifth out of 28 schools in the Class 3A Boys State Track and Field Meet, with two Hawks bringing home gold medals. Holly High, scoring 50 team points, trailed first-place Carthage (87), second-place Tylertown (82), third-place Charleston (65) and fourth-place Corinth (54). The meet was held Friday in Pearl. “We had a good showing,” coach Clifford Brown said. “We were in the lead after four events.” State champion Hawks are Pierre Thomas in long jump competition (22-10.5) and Marcell Johnson in shot put (49-10). Thomas also racked up points for Holly High in other events. He was fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.22), fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.87) and fifth in the triple jump (43-09.50). Other top individal finishers for the Hawks included Antonio Isom, fourth in the 400 meter dash (50.45) and Darian Jones, eighth in 300 meter hurdles (44.86). Holly Springs also placed third in the 4x400 meter relay (3:27.12) and fifth in the 4x100 meter relay (44.66). Running the 4x400 were Antonio Isom, Justin Crumb, Marcell Johnson and Desley Brown.
