sign with community colleges By BARRY BURLESON Northwest Community College Coach Don “Bubba” Skelton appreciates the Holly Springs High School pipeline when it comes to basketball talent. Last week, Skelton signed two senior Hawks, Antonio Isom and Jemorris Wilks. They will join another former Hawk, Justin Nabors, on next year’s Ranger squad. “Holly Springs has great tradition,” Skelton said. “They’re used to winning, and that seems to carry over.” Isom and Wilks were major contributors in the Hawks’ success this past season. Holly High advanced to the Class 3A state championship and finished the season with a 34-2 record. • Owens makes history in Byhalia By BARRY BURLESON Kristie Owens inked her name on a scholarship and into the Byhalia High School history book Thursday morning. Owens became the first athlete ever from the school to sign a softball scholarship. She will play for the East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions next season. Holly High kicks off spring drills By BARRY BURLESON The success of the Holly Springs football team last season translates into spring practice momentum. Seventy-two Hawks are on the practice field for spring drills. That’s up 15 from last year. Hawks third in North By BARRY BURLESON The Holly Springs High School boys placed third in the North 3A Track and Field Meet Saturday in Oxford. The Hawks finished with 88 points, trailing first-place Charleston (128.50) and second-place Corinth (119). Sixteen schools competed. Behind The

Football season has been over for a couple of months now (and I am sure that some of you football widows were thrilled with the demise), but there is the national draft to consider. MA athletic boosters plan banquet, raffle The Marshall Academy Booster Club is hosting the annual Athletic Banquet on Thursday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. The banquet, which will be held in the MA gymnasium, honors all varsity athletes and coaches. Meat and drinks are provided. All ninth and 10th grade parents are asked to bring a dessert, and all 11th and 12th grade parents are asked to bring a side dish. Upper classmen boys, please bring a side dish, and upper classmen girls, please bring a dessert. For more information, call the school, 252-3449. Also, the Marshall Academy Booster Club will holds its annual $10,000 raffle on Saturday, May 13, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased from a Booster Club member.
