Local News BriefsLessye Lee Davis parade set for May 6 in Holly Springs The 2006 Lessye Lee Davis May Day parade and activities are set for Saturday, May 6. The parade begins at 11 a.m. It will start from M.I. campus and go around the square. May Day is an annual event in memory of “Mama Lessye,” 4-H advisor in Marshall County for many years. The day is set aside to honor her and keep her legacy alive. Chairperson this year is Myra Scales. For more information, call her at 252-4958 or 544-0143. Marshall Music Department schedules spring production Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in the Marshall Academy gymnasium, the M.A. Music Department will present its spring production, “From M.A. to Broadway,” a collection of songs from various Broadway musicals. The program will feature the Patriot Performers and the students in grades 3-6. Admission is $5. Dudley Moore Horse Show May 20 at Thomas Arena The Dudley R. Moore Jr. Memorial 15th Annual White Oak Classic Walking and Racking Horse Show is just a few weeks away. The big event is set for Saturday, May 20, at Thomas Indoor Arena, Highway 7 at 78, in Holly Springs. Opening ceremony begins at 6 p.m. There will be 28 classes of competition, plus a kids’ area, a stick horse class, bake sale, displays, concessions and much more. Gates open at 2 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12, $4 for seniors and military, and children 5 and under are admitted free. Show manager is Terry Rodgers. Co-manager is Paul Summers. The fund raiser benefits the Byhalia Chamber, Marshall County Habitat for Humanity, Byhalia Sports Association, church youth groups and the Byhalia Lions Club. Small business roundtables continue next Tuesday The third in a series of roundtable discussions for small business owners and other interested persons will be held next Tuesday, May 2, at Annie’s Restaurant. Breakfast and Small Business: A Roundtable Discussion is sponsored by the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. Next week’s topic is “Secrets to Saving Your Business.” The breakfast starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 8 a.m. Moderator is Don Fischer, director of the Small Business Development Center at Ole Miss.
