MA junior high athletes place at district By BARRY BURLESON The Marshall Academy junior high track teams had a good showing at the District Meet Tuesday, April 11, at Clarksdale (Lee Academy). The junior high Patriots finished third overall and Lady Patriots fourth. In boys’ competition, Taylor Dempsey, Tyler Childers, Hunter Bolden and Hank Owens placed second in both the 400 meter relay and the 800 meter relay. Hunter Bolden, Jordan Brock, Tyler Childers and Taylor Dempsey came in second in the 1600 meter relay. Third-place finishers included - Tyler Childers in the 100 meter dash, Taylor Dempsey in the long jump, Colby Curtis in the high jump, Spenser Autry in the shot put, Landen Fennell in the discus throw and Hunter Bolden in the pole vault. In the girls’ competition, Kim Cunningham took first in the high jump, while Heather Tomlinson placed second in the shot put. Third-place finishers included - Lauralee Fant in the 400 meter dash; Emily Burk in the high jump; Casey Gibson, Courtney Gibson, Molly West and Lauralee Fant in the 400 meter relay and the 800 meter relay; and Casey Gibson, Lauralee Fant, Molly West and Kelsey Shaw in the 1600 meter relay. Marshall Track Meet MA hosted a meet on Saturday, April 8, in conjunction with the Spring Fling activities on campus. The junior high Patriots and Lady Patriots each came in second overall. The junior high boys trailed champion Rossville, while Magnolia Heights took third and Delta fourth. The Marshall junior high girls trailed Magnolia Heights, while Delta placed third and Rossville fourth. Individually, Spenser Autry won first in the shot put, Tyler Childers first in the pole vault and 100 meter dash, and Jake Delashmit first in the 3200 meter run. On the girls’ side, Kim Cunningham finished first in the high jump and Megan Isbell placed first in the 1600 meter run. The Marshall Academy senior high girls tied for third, while the senior high boys placed fourth. Individually, Traci Rodgers captured first place in three events - the 3200 meter run, the 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run.
