Local News BriefsMayor Dempsey to speak at Thursday Chamber luncheon The Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce announces its quarterly membership luncheon Thursday, March 23, at Northcentral Electric Power, Highway 309. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The program, with Mayor Scooter Dempsey as guest speaker, is from 12 noon to 1 p.m. There is no charge for members, and a $5 charge at the door for prospective members. Hosts for the luncheon are First Tennessee Home Loans and Whistle Stop Cafe. Naturalist program begins March 30 at Audubon Center Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs will be offering a Naturalist Training Course beginning on March 30. The objective of the naturalist program is to familiarize participants with a basic knowledge about the landscape and natural history of the local environments. Topics to be covered include plant identification, geology, weather, basic ecological principles, habitats, watersheds and others. The class will meet on Thursdays for 10 consecutive weeks. Each daylong session contains a combination of both classroom lecture and field instruction. The fee for the course is $150, which includes all instruction and course materials for participants. Individuals interested in participating in the naturalist program should contact Chad Pope by phone at 662-252-1155 or by e-mail at cpope@audubon.org. The course is limited to 10 participants. Habitat for Humanity sponsoring spaghetti supper Marshall County Habitat for Humanity will host a spaghetti dinner on Thursday, April 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (eat-in or take-out). Dinner will be served at the Oak Palace, 580 Stewart St., in Holly Springs (north off east Van Dorn just past railroad bridge) and includes spaghetti, salad, bread and desserts. Tickets are $7 each. Marshall County Habitat for Humanity urges everyone to help us build our fifth home. Friends of Library schedule yard sale, dinner April 6 The Friends of the Library will sponsor their annual fund-raiser on Thursday, April 6, at Christ Episcopal Church. The yard sale and book sale will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. J.B.s barbecue plates, with dessert, will be available for $10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friends of the Library encourage everyone to help us help you. Annual Pilgrimage activities slated for April 21-23 The 68th annual Holly Springs Pilgrimage, sponsored by the Holly Springs Garden Club, is a month away, set for April 21-23.
