claim two spring break victories By BARRY
BURLESON The Marshall Academy baseball team went two for three in the Delta Tournament last week to improve its season mark to 5-3. Spending the early part of spring break week on the diamond, the Patriots fell to Lee, Ark., and then downed both Delta Academy and Humphreys Academy. MA suffered a 9-3 setback to the team from Marianna, Ark., in its first game of the tourney on Monday, March 13. Justin Gray had two singles and two runs-batted-in. Bo Bonds started his hot week at the plate with a two-for-two performance, including a double and single. John David Sanders added a double. Hunter Bolden took the mound loss, moving his mark to 2-1. Coach Jimmy Hicks squad rebounded Monday evening and slapped 17 hits in a 16-6 rout of host Delta. Marshall, in its hitting show, had eight doubles and two home runs. Bonds was four for four with three doubles and a single. Bolden opened the game with a solo homer. He also added a double and a single. Other leading hitters were Tyler Sanders with a double and a home run, Gray with two doubles, J.D. Sanders with a double and a single and Thomas Rodgers with two singles. Cody Anglin added a double and four RBIs, and Tyler Childers a single. Rodgers (1-0) earned the mound victory. He gave up seven hits and four earned runs and struck out three. The Patriots kept swinging the bats with authority in their final game of the tournament Tuesday. They scorched Humphreys Academy 15-6. Bolden had two hits, including his second homer of the tourney. Bonds was two of four with a double and a single. He was eight of 10 for the tournament. Childers and Gray also had a double and a single each. Getting two singles each were J.D. Sanders and Rodgers. Jake Omedeo had a single. J.D. Sanders (1-0) pitched six innings for the wing. He gave up four earned runs and struck out two. The Patriots were scheduled to visit Rossville, Tenn., Monday and then go to Kirk Academy on Tuesday for a district contest. Theyre 0-2 in the district. Next Monday, March 27, Marshall hosts Kirby beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 25, the seventh and eighth grade team hosts Kirk in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Report News:
