Behind the Scoreboard

March Madness almost here

It is super funny how quickly we reach Frantic February and March Madness.

The former will start at the first level this week and slowly escalate until all the aspirant high school teams across this great state of ours will pack gear and head down the Big Road to the Big House.

As happens each year, some will have their dreams realized and some will have their hopes dashed. And you can bet that, God willing, we will do our best to be there for you, our dear readers, every step of the way.

Of course, March Madness has much higher stakes (for the collegiate crowd). I can honestly say that at this point I don’t have a clue as to who the best college team is. I know who is ranked number one in the nation and that is Illinois. At last report they were still unbeaten and I believe they were scheduled to play the Hawkeyes. This past weekend I thought that I heard some place that they had won.

This writer did get a chance to see one collegiate game, the Maryland Terps against the Cavaliers of the University of Virginia. This one went to two overtimes and was just plain thrilling.

I can promise you that I will end this seeming confusion by the end of this week (every- one knows that it not easy to confuse me, heh, heh!).

The different conferences should be entering their own championship trials and should present a much clearer picture after they complete the competition.

So we will have a better picture of how the SEC will look after this.
