Deadline March 4 for qualifying for city elections
Election qualifying continues in Marshall County’s municipalities.

The deadline for candidates to sign up for this year’s elections is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

There are three new qualifiers since last week’s newspaper.

In Potts Camp, Casey Mayer is running for alderman.

In Byhalia, new alderman candidates are Thomas Reagh and Derwin Cobb.

There are no new candidates in Holly Springs.

Primaries will be held Tuesday, May 3, with runoffs, if needed, set two weeks later, on Tuesday, May 17. The municipal general elections are Tuesday, June 7.

Gov. haley Barbour coming to Holly Springs next Tuesday
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will be the guest speaker at the quarterly luncheon of the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce.

The lunch will be held at Dreamland next Tuesday, Feb. 22, at noon.

Tickets can be obtained from the Chamber office or at Lavora’s Personal Grooming and Boutique. Members may purchase tickets for $12 and prospective members for $15.

City school board election scheduled for March 5
The ballot is set for the March 5 Holly Springs School Board election.

Candidates for the position are Ray Von Autry and Claude L. Vinson Sr.

The election is for the last two years of a five-year term for the vacated Board of Trustees seat. The position is for the added territory of the Holly Springs School District outside the corporate limits of the City of Holly Springs.

Polls will be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, at the Holly Springs High School Auditorium, 165 N. Walthall.

Ida B. Wells Museum celebrates Black History Month
Black History Month is a time for celebrating and honoring African Americans who have made contributions to our country and to the world.

What better way to celebrate the month that has been set aside to honor great African Americans than to expose your students or members to the museum that has been named in honor of one of the greatest African American women who has ever lived.

The Ida B. Wells Museum in Holly Springs would like to invite you to participate in the many activities and events that have been designed to honor and celebrate the contributions of African Americans during the month of February.

Activities for Black History Month at the museum include lectures, guided tours and hands-on activities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The museum, located at 220 North Randolph, can tailor your field trip to meet the needs of your school or organization.
