Marshall opens second half in tourneys

Marshall Academy varsity basketball teams go south this week to start post-Christmas basketball competition.

The Lady Patriots and Patriots will play in the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Invitational Tournament.

The Lady Patriots face Central Private School on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 3:40 p.m.

With a win, the Lady Patriots will play again on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 3:40 p.m. With a loss, they will play on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 2:20 p.m.

Other girls teams competing include Parklane (ranked number three in AAA), Copiah, Bowling Green, Brookhaven, Hillcrest, Adams County Christian School (ranked number four in AA), Simpson and Marvell (ranked number one in A).

The MA boys, ranked third in the state in Academy AA, meet AAA entry Hillcrest on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 5 p.m.

With a victory, the Patriots will play again on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m. With a loss, they will play on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m.

Other boys teams competing include Parklane (ranked number four in AAA), Adams County Christian School, Bowling Green, Simpson, Brookhaven (ranked number one in AA), Central Private and Copiah.

The tournament wraps up on Friday, with games at 1 p.m., 2:20 p.m., 3:40 p.m. (girls consolation), 5 p.m. (boys consolation), 6:20 p.m. (girls championship) and 7:40 p.m. (boys championship).

Magnolia Heights Classic

The following week, January 4-7, Marshall Academy varsity teams will participate in the Magnolia Heights Memorial Classic at Senatobia.

The Lady Patriots will face Delta (ranked third in Academy A) on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 p.m. With a win, they will face Marvell (ranked number one in A) on Friday, Jan. 6, at 4 p.m. in the semi-finals. With a loss, they are eliminated.

In the other side of the girls’ bracket are Magnolia Heights (ranked fourth in AAA), Tunica Institute of Learning and DeSoto.

The Patriots will go up against DeSoto on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 7:45 p.m. in the opening round. With a win, they will meet Delta (ranked third in Academy A) Friday, Jan. 6, at 5:15 p.m. With a loss, they are eliminated.

In the other side of the boys’ bracket are Magnolia Heights, TIL and Marvell.

Consolation games and championship contests are Saturday, Jan. 7, starting at 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Marshall Academy teams return to district action when they host Carroll Academy.
